The North East of Scotland Family Placement Consortium exists to aid the finding of permanent family homes for children in the North East of Scotland. Many children need to be parented in families that are not their own, and the Consortium shares resources to help achieve permanence for children in the member authorities. The Consortium was formally set up in January 2005 and is administered by a Co-ordinator.

The Consortium consists of 9 local authorities. They are;

  • Aberdeen City
  • Aberdeenshire
  • Angus
  • Clackmannanshire
  • Dundee
  • Fife
  • Highland
  • Perth and Kinross
  • Moray

The Consortium is particularly useful for older children and sibling groups and offers a greater geographical choice; it is not always sensible to place children in their home area.

The British Association for Adoption and Fostering provides office space and consultancy services for the consortium and is available to give advice

How we work

If local authorities cannot immediately find a placement, they pass information about families and children who are seeking adoption and long term fostering to the consortium.

Social workers look at all the possible opportunities for families and children, and will try to find local placements first If after 3 months nothing has been found, they may approach the Consortium for help.

In many cases children do not find immediate placement because they have brothers or sisters with whom they are close, and it is important to try to find them a home together.

We urgently need people who are willing to offer a child or children a home.  You may not be sure that what you have to offer is what we are looking for, however many children have been placed in families that felt this way.

People wishing to foster or adopt are invited in the first instance to contact the Social Services Department in their local area.  Alternatively, our staff at BAAF Scotland will be glad to help you find the appropriate person.
